GO Transit fares are going up. Fares vary by distance travelled, but the cost of a single adult ride using a paper ticket will rise by anywhere from 35 to 55 cents.

Fares for children, students, seniors and groups will also increase.

Metrolinx, the provincial agency that operates GO Transit, says the fare increase will help pay for service improvements such as more parking and more train and bus trips.

The increase will be less for customers who use Presto cards as there will be changes to loyalty discounts.
