Statement by Harinder Takhar on entering the Ontario Liberal Party leadership race
Earlier today I informed Premier Dalton McGuinty of my intention to resign from the Executive Council of Ontario and seek the leadership of the Ontario Liberal Party.
For several weeks I have consulted with people from every corner of this province to find out what renewal means to them. In conversations with these grass roots Ontarians it has become clear to me that the bulk of their concerns center around their ability to provide opportunities for their families to succeed in these times of economic uncertainty. They tell me that they are looking for a positive, optimistic plan that offers hope for their future. Over the coming days and weeks, I look forward to sharing my vision of how we can achieve this together.
Like many new Canadians, I moved to Ontario to give my family a better opportunity for a more prosperous life. I started and built several small businesses from the ground up, always recognizing that stable, reliable and well-paying jobs are the cornerstone of success for families and communities.
As leader, I will apply this experience to empower Ontario’s small business engine to create jobs and help Ontario families be the best they can be.
I invite you to join me this Saturday at 11:30am when I will be laying out my Action Plan for Jobs and Family Prosperity.
Sincerely, Harinder S. Takhar
