Ontario Government Helping Municipalities Collect Unpaid Fines

The new Ontario government is taking action to help municipalities collect unpaid traffic fines from drivers who do not follow the rules of the road.

Legislation to be introduced later this week would, if passed, deny licence plates to drivers who have unpaid fines for offences such as speeding, improper lane changes, illegal turns, driving with no insurance and careless driving.

The legislation would also make it easier for municipalities to charge out-of-province drivers who run red lights and fail to stop for school buses.

Supporting municipalities and keeping families safe on the roads is part of the new Ontario government’s plan to boost the economy and strengthen communities.
